Wow, to say the past month has been busy is an understatement. Shortly after our return from Louisville, we packed up the car again for our longest drive (with the kids) ever to Houston, Texas. We stayed there for a couple of days at Jeff's parent's place before flying over the Pacific to Japan.
We decided to split the drive into two days, so it was a little more manageable and in attempt to avoid two long days that would most likely seem longer and more tortuous for the kids in the end. We decided to leave Friday night so that we could get about 1/3 of the driving done while the kids were sleepy and they fell asleep for the second half of the drive.
The seven hours we had remaining on Saturday were still long and looking back, I don't know how we did it (or the three weeks to follow for that matter!). It was a relief when we arrived in Houston, where the kids could run and crawl around and we could put our feet up and get enough energy for the international flight just days later.
We had a blast the short two days we were there going to a local Children's Museum, park, Chuck-e-cheese and, of course, shopping. I think we wore out my in-laws just enough that they could recover during our two weeks away in Japan, but not enough that they didn't want us to return for the end of our biggest and longest family vacation yet.
